NEW DELHI, December 2. /TASS/. India has successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable medium-range ballistic missile, Agni-IV, from a test range off the coast of the eastern state of Orissa, the NDTV TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The missile, developed by India's DRDO, was test-fired at 10.20 a.m. local time (04.20 GMT) from a mobile launcher from the Wheeler Island in the Bay of Bengal.

The first test of Agni-IV in December 2010 was a failure, and the second one in November 2011 was a success. The missile, which can carry a one ton nuclear warhead, is about 20 meters long and weighs 17 tons.

Previous successful tests of Agni-IV were carried out in January.

In April 2012, India test-fired a new long-range ballistic missile Agni-V, with a range of over 5,000 km. Agni-V, like other missiles of the series, is capable of carrying a one ton nuclear warhead, and is 17.5 meters long, 2 meters wide and weighs 50 tons.
