Necessary to fight terrorism together — UN official

According to Leonardo Santos Simao, terrorism is not restricted by state borders while its impact and consequences are quite substantial

MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. A war on terrorism should be waged jointly, countries must sit down at the negotiating table to find an effective solution, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) Leonardo Santos Simao said in an interview with TASS.

According to him, terrorism is not restricted by state borders while its impact and consequences are quite substantial. "So how can we work together within our own organization so then we can tackle this? And I think this is doable. This can be done. What is needed is a bit of serenity. And we sit down, all parties consent, and they work together to find viable solutions," he noted.

"Terrorism is directly or indirectly affecting everybody. Because we have one country which is affected by terrorism, but this country which is affected by terrorism has links, economic, social, with other countries [affecting them as well]," the UN envoy said.
