Hainan’s resort city of Sanya popular with Russian tourists — media

According to the Sanya Daily newspaper, the resort offers a variety of services from traditional Chinese medicine to numerous shopping centers

SANYA /China/, February 5. /TASS/. The resort town of Sanya in the southern Chinese province of Hainan provides a wide range of tourist services that are popular with travelers from Russia, the Sanya Daily newspaper reported.

According to the paper, tourists from the Russian Federation are frequent visitors of the resort. A pleasant climate, beautiful scenery, medical and health services, visa-free entry and many other aspects contribute to the fact that Russian tourists do not want to leave Sanya and dream of returning there, the newspaper notes. The article points out that the resort city provides a range of services from traditional Chinese medicine to numerous shopping centers. All of them meet the needs of tourists from Russia.

The newspaper quotes a Russian tourist from Hainan as saying that there are few sunny days in Russia in winter, which is why the beautiful scenery, sunshine and beaches of Sanya attract Russian tourists.

Another Russian tourist told the paper that she has visited many cities in China but has been returning to Sanya almost every year lately. She emphasized that compared to tropical resorts in other countries, Hainan is much safer. The interviewee also pointed out that Sanya has a lot of attractions for every taste, including the Nanshan Buddhism Culture Park, the city's Tianya Haijiao coastal park (The edges of heaven, corners of the sea) and many others. Hainan is also a great place for divers or to buy handicrafts made by the Li people living on the island, the article says.

Vladimir, a Russian citizen, told Sanya Daily that this is the second time he has come to the Hainan resort. According to the interviewee, he had serious problems with his neck, so he sought help from specialists in traditional Chinese medicine. "I come to Sanya in winter. More for the treatment of cervical spondylosis. I feel that traditional Chinese medicine works wonders," the publication quoted him as saying.

By the end of 2023, more than 90 million Chinese and foreign tourists visited Hainan, which is 49.9% higher than in 2022. The province's revenues from tourism amounted to about 181.3 billion yuan (about $25.5 billion), up 71.9% year-on-year. The press service of the provincial government told TASS earlier that Hainan authorities expect an increase in tourist flow from Russia in 2024.
