Russian Navy’s Bastion missile systems practice massive strike in Baltic drills

The Bastion coastal defense missile system is designated to defend the coastline over 600 km long

KALININGRAD, April 15. /TASS/. The combat teams of the Baltic Fleet’s Bastion coastal defense missile systems stationed in the Kaliningrad and Leningrad Regions held drills to deliver a massive missile strike on a hypothetical enemy’s warships in various areas of the Baltic Sea, the Fleet’s press office reported on Friday.

"Battalions of Bastion coastal defense missile systems, naval and aerial reconnaissance systems of the Baltiysk and Leningrad naval bases were involved in combat training measures," the press office said in a statement.

The teams of Bastion mobile launchers stealthily advanced from permanent stations to sites on the shore of the Kaliningrad Region and the Gulf of Finland, where they deployed and readied missile systems for employment in accordance with the existing timed requirements, the press office specified.

"At the final stage of the drills, the Bastion teams delivered notional massive missile strikes against groups of the mock enemy’s warships located in various areas of the Baltic Sea by conducting electronic launches," the press office stressed, specifying that the military exercise brought together 200 personnel and over 30 items of military and special hardware.

The Bastion coastal defense missile system is designated to defend the coastline over 600 km long. It is capable of striking adversary surface ships of various types under enemy intensive fire and jamming. A Bastion ammunition load may comprise up to 36 Oniks missiles.
